Intramurals/Cup Stacking

Sport (Cup) STACKING

Dear Parents and Students,

I am very excited to start our Ponderosa Intramural Program again this year!  The first Intramural activity we will be having is Cup Stacking.  Cup Stacking is a unique and exciting sport where participants stack and unstack 12 specially designed plastic cups in predetermined sequences.  Stackers race against the clock, each other and in relays.  It truly is a sport you have to see to believe!  Not only is this a fun and exciting sport, but also it has many great benefits.  Some of the benefits promoted are: bilateral proficiency – equal performance on both sides of the body and brain which helps develop hand-eye coordination, ambidexterity, quickness and concentration – all important skills used in most any sports or activity where use of the left and right hands occur.  Cup stacking also encourages students to set goals through establishing personal records and reinforce perseverance and practice as the way to improve those goals and records.  It teaches the value of teamwork, good sportsmanship and the importance of never giving up!   Most importantly you have fun!

We will meet weekly by grade level starting the week of August 31st and going until the week of November 16th.  A schedule of Cup Stacking Days can be found on the back of this sheet.  Cup Stacking will be in the mornings from 8:00am-8:45am.  Tuesday mornings will be 1st and 2nd grades only and Thursday mornings will be 3rd, 4th and 5th grades only.  The front door of the school is locked, so you must come in through the front West side door that leads directly into the gym.  I will be standing there allowing Cup Stackers in.  YOU MUST BE ON TIME!   If you arrive after 8:05am, the door will be shut and locked!  You will then have to wait until school starts.  The only time there will be an exception to the door rule is when there is a snowstorm.  If we have a delayed start due to weather, there will NOT be Cup Stacking that morning.

The students will also have a chance to compete in the Cherry Creek District Cup Stacking Tournament on November 14th so mark your calendars now!  This program is open to students in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade.  Cup Stacking is limited to 75 students per day.  This will be on a first come first serve basis.  In order to be placed on the list the student will need to bring back the permission slip filled out completely and signed by a parent/guardian.  Please turn in the slip directly to Miss Shockey.

Intramurals promotes teamwork and good sportsmanship as well as our Ponderosa Pride Code of Conduct:  Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful.  If your student is having a problem following these expectations, then they may be asked to leave the program.

Hope to see you there!

~Miss Shockey (720) 747-2800
